Things I’ve Learned As A Twenty Something

Here are some things that I’ve been reflecting on as a maturing young woman…

Know your worth

If you don’t know your own worth someone else will define it for you and you’ll end up settling for less than what you truly deserve.

It’s okay to say NO sometimes

This is something that I’m still working on. For most of my life I’ve watched my mother bend over backwards for others. The woman would give you the shirt off of her back if necessary. Slowly but surely, I see myself following in her footsteps. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a kind heart and a giving spirit. It’s just that you have to determine how far you are willing to go. Sometimes we take on so many things, especially as women, that it can be overwhelming. We have to learn when to say YES and when to say NO.

Treat Yourself

Even if it’s something small. I used to treat myself to a salad from Salad Works on a payday and trust, those salads run you like ten dollars so it was definitely a treat! But when you treat yourself not only are you rewarding yourself, you are also showing others how you expect to be treated also. So buy that bag, get those shoes, get that mani/pedi. You deserve it!

Some loads we were not meant to carry

Give it to Jesus! He’ll work it out.

Don’t hate on anyone else’s come up

Everyone has their own path in life. You don’t know the sacrifices the next man had to make in order to get to where they are. Your time is coming.

Having fun doesn’t always mean drinking or “Turning Up!”

Everyone loves a little Turn Up, but there are so many other things to do. Step outside of your comfort zone. Take a painting or pottery class. Visit a museum. See a play. Go to a concert. Check out my previous posts for ideas.

Make an investment in your career

An investment doesn’t always have to be monetary. Take the time to perfect your craft. Find a mentor. Attend a conference or seminar. Associate yourself with like minded individuals. Intern! Just because you’ve graduated doesn’t mean you can’t intern. Many companies offer internships to recent grads as well.

Set goals and create a plan on how to accomplish them

Enough Said.

Have fun

Life is so hard and being an adult ain’t easy. Let your hair down.

Can you relate? What are some things that you’ve learned or embraced at this stage in your life?

As always,
